Cannes Film Festival Reveals Lineup, which was known as the International Film Festival until 2003, is an annual film festival that takes place in Cannes, France, and features world premieres of new films in every genre, including documentaries. The invitation-only festival, which was first established as the International Film Festival on September 20, 1946, is held annually in the Palais des Festivals et des Congress, generally in May. In 1951, the FIAPF officially recognized the festival.

“The Apprentice,” a Trump drama directed by Ali Abbasi, and “Kinds of Kindness,” a film by Yorgos Lanthimos, will compete in Cannes.

The 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to happen from May 14–25, 2024. Greta Gerwig, an actress and filmmaker from the United States, will preside over the main competition jury. The opening and closing ceremonies will be hosted by French actress Camille Cottin.Quentin Dupieux’s The Second Act will be the festival’s opening act.George Lucas will be awarded the Honorary Palme d’Or during the festival.

Cannes Film Festival Reveals Lineup : Several renowned directors will be present at the 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, including George Miller and Anya Taylor-Joy in “Furiosa,” Francis Ford Coppola and Adam Driver in “Megalopolis,” and George Lucas, who will receive an honorary Palme d’Or. The first chapter of Kevin Costner’s Western epic “Horizon, an American Saga” will also be available.

This year’s Palme d’Or is also featuring new works from Jia Zhang-Ke, Paolo Sorrentino, Andrea Arnold, David Cronenberg, Sean Baker, and Jacques Audiard.

CANNES FILMS OFFICIAL SELECTION IN 2024

High-profile movies being produced for this year’s competition include David Cronenberg’s “The Shrouds,” starring Vincent Cassel and Diane Kruger, Paolo Sorrentino’s “Parthenope,” starring Gary Oldman, and Jacques Audiard’s musical melodrama “Emilia Perez,” starring Zoe Saldana and Selena Gomez.

Yorgos Lanthimos’ stylized three-part story set in the present that reunites the director of “Poor Things” with Emma Stone and Willem Dafoe; Paul Schrader’s “Oh Canada,” starring Richard Gere, is based on a screenplay by the late Russell Banks (“Affliction”). Additionally, Coralie Fargeat’s “The Substance,” a horror movie with a strong female lead cast that includes Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley from Universal Pictures and Working Title Films, is worth seeing.

Seven female directors were invited to the Official Competition last year, a record for the festival’s female representation. In the end, Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall” won the Palme d’Or, making history as the third time a woman has taken home the festival’s highest accolade. The number of female competitors this year is just four.

Three years after taking home the festival’s documentary prize, Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia will premiere her narrative feature “All We Imagine as Light.”

Chinese filmmaker Jia Zhang-Ke, a veteran of Cannes with films like Ash is the Purest White and A Touch of Sin, is back with a competition entry called Caught By the Tides. Meanwhile, Russian director Kirill Serebrennikov, who was exiled and made films like Tchaikovsky’s Wife, Petrov’s Flu, and Leto, will debut Limonov: The fourth entry in the competition was The Ballad of Eddie in Cannes.
